Indian Grand Prix will be the 18th race on the 20-race 2011 calendar, released by the FIA
after a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council.

The race track will come up at Greater Noida. Will this event also go the Common Wealth games way? Only time will tell. However, we can hope that FIA does really approve the race track being formed in India.

India made it to the formula one with a team Force India. However, it is yet to have any drivers make it to formula One. If a racing track comes up in the country then surely there will be a lot of people getting into racing.

The racing track is expected to be used not only for car racing but also for moto GP.

Indian Rupee (INR) gets an unique identity

, India has finally got a symbol for the Rupee and joined a select club
of countries whose currencies have an unique identity. The Cabinet on
Thursday approved the new symbol for the Indian rupee - an amalgam of
the Devnagiri 'Ra' and the Roman capital 'R' without the stem. The
Rupee will join the select club of global currencies like the US
dollar, the British Pound, European Euro and Japanese Yen that have
unique symbols. The growing influence of the Indian economy in the
global space has prompted this move.
Presently, the abbreviation for the Indian Rupee, 'Re' or 'Rs' is used
by India's neighbours Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka as well.
It would take about six months in India and about two years to make it
recognized internationally. As the rock dissolves, spaces develop underground. These sinkholes are dramatic because the surface land stays intact until there is no support below which causes the land to sink. A sudden collapse of the land surface occurs.

A variant of this is the blue hole. This is a sink hole in water or sea. There are also called vertical caves. The dissolved oxygen levels in such holes are very low, hence doesnt support any life, however some forms of bacteria can survive.
Blue holes can be very spectacular if they are found in areas having coral reefs. Such blue holes can become tourist destinations. There are many different Blue Holes located around the world Belize, Bahamas, Red Sea etc.

--

football world cup calender

http://www.marca.com/deporte/futbol/mundial/sudafrica-2010/calendario-english.html

Why sanskrit is superior

In the English language the alphabets from A to Z are not arranged in any logical or rational manner. There is no reason why F is followed by G or why P is followed by Q, etc. The alphabets in English are all arranged haphazardly and at random. On the other hand, Panini in his first fourteen Sutras arranged alphabets in the Sanskrit language in a very scientific and logical manner, after close observation of the sounds in human speech.

Thus, for example the vowels, a, aa, i, ee, u, oo, ae, ai, o, ou are arranged according to the shape of the mouth when these sounds are emitted, a and aa, are pronounced from the throat, i and ee from the palate, o and oo from the lips, etc. In the same way the consonants have been arranged in a sequence on a scientific pattern. The (ka) varga (i.e. ka, kha, ga, gha, nga) are emitted from the throat, the (cha) varga from the palate, the ( ta ) varga from the roof of the mouth, the (ta ) varga from the teeth, and the (pa ) varga from the lips.

No language in the world has its alphabets arranged in such a rational and systematic manner. And when we see how deeply our ancestors went in the seemingly simple matter of arranging the alphabets we can realize how deeply they went in more advanced matters.

Now if you are wondering how that would make a difference then can you think of writing a word in Sanskrit which you cannot pronounce?

To be continued...

Force India - A force to reckon with !!!

Force India created history today by finishing in the podium in the Belgium Grand Prix. Fisichella took force india to be second in the race. Earlier, he had got the pole position. Fisichella started from pole position but Ferrari's Kimi Kaikkonen passed him at the end of the safety car period.

Before this race the 'force india' was even struggling to get any points. The best they could get was the 10th position. This is a great result for Force India. Suddenly, with this race Force India seems to be a force that cannot be taken lightly.

After buying Spykar F1 team Mallya formed the Force India and entered Formula One motor racing. The team was formed in October 2007. According to Mallya, the previous year the car remained unchanged to the spykar cars of 2007 which left no mark in the F1 racing. But this year new aerodynamic to the cars suddenly changed the scenario.

Tulsi scares Swine flu away!!!!!

Tulsi a very commonly used natural herb is beleived to have a remedy for Swine Flu. Ayurvedic practitioners claim that Tulsi can not only keep the dreaded swine flu at bay but also help in fast recovery of an afflicted person.

Ayurveda, the Indian traditional 'science of life', always has a remedy for diseases when every other stream of medicine fails. Now, at a time when swine flu is spreading like wildfire across the world, Ayurveda has the remedy in the form of the miraculous herb, Tulsi.

Tulsi, the purest and most sublime plant, has been known and worshipped in India for more than five millennia for its remarkable healing properties. The anti-flu property of Tulsi has been discovered by medical experts across the world quite recently. Tulsi improves the body's overall defence mechanism including its ability to fight viral diseases.

Apart from acting as a preventive medicine in case of swine flu, Tulsi can help the patient recover faster. Even when a person has already contracted swine flu, Tulsi can help in speeding up the recovery process and also help in strengthening the immune system of the body.

Tulsi can control swine flu and it should be taken in fresh form. Juice or paste of at least 20-25 medium sized leaves should be consumed twice a day on an empty stomach. This increases the resistance of the body and, thereby, reduces the chances of inviting swine flu.

As its name suggests, Tulsi has again proved to be 'the incomparable' medicine - this time, in the prevention and cure of swine flu.

Three varieties of Tulsi leaves - Krishna, Vana and Katuki improve cell mediated immunity. These are anti-viral agents and improve body's resistance against various diseases including swine flu.

Moreover, the practitioners said taking Tulsi is safe as it has no side effects and can be taken along with other medicines. This is one of the main adantages of Ayurvedic medicines.

Publicity stunt by KKR?

If there is an award among all the IPL teams for the number of contraversies created by their team then it surely will go to KKR even though its just a week since the IPL has started. Note sure if the talks will bear any fruit but this is the first time ICC is going to intervene and try to solve the issue. ICC is under intense pressure from many other boards to recongnize ICL and consider it as a legal entity since many of its players have joined ICL. specifically New zealand, pakisthan and bangadesh cricket boards. BCCI has been putting a lot of pressure on these boards to ban its players who join the ICL. With the economic slowdown going on all over the sponsors for the game have become less, although denied by BCCI.

If the meeting is successful, then it would be break the most powerful BCCI monopoly over cricket in India. With the introduction of the ICL the monopoly got a serious threat but its looks like the slowdown is going to prove to be a boon for ICL. Lets hope that this meeting is successful and we get to see much better matches than IPL.

Updates:

The ICC, ICL and BCCI failed to reach a resolution after a three-hour meeting in Johannesburg on the unauthorised league's request for official recognition. No further discussions are scheduled and the ICL's application will be now be considered once again by the ICC executive board in April. :(

brain drain

why brain drain in India is very high. If you look at the recent events happening in India you will realise the reason why.
Mr. Narayan Murthy was appointed special IT adviser for Sri lankan president. Murthy was critisized by many political leaders. Naturally he would be fed up of it and now has decided to head the IT department in that country and develop it.
In the need of crisis situation we need someone like him to bring things back to normal, but its very sad to see that he is willing to help other countries before ours. Not his mistake though. When asked about this decision he said that it is his personal matter and wouldnt like to comment on it. He has already set up a big Infosys center in Sri Lanka. He is like a god father of IT industry in that country. So when someone gives a good recognition that he deserves to he would obviously accept it.

brew mobile platform (BMP) Vs android google

Qualcomm's brew mobile platform (BMP) the latest version of brew has a lot of modifcations compared to its previous version. The changes seem to be mainly targeting the challenge given by android, the open source platform from google. Qualcomm is a member of the OHA, a partner in the development of Android as well.

BMP has some unique featues like it supports lua scripts, flash programming, trigML, lua and trigML debugging capabilities. The combination of such powerful programming languages in one platform is a boon the developer.

The platform is open which allows a wide range of applicatons to be developed. Even though the platform is open, the source is still not open. A lot of code is made open to the OEM's and not to the developer.

One of the biggest disadvantages or advantage in being a BREW developer is that for the developer to post any application in the server and to be downloaded by the user the process is very lengthy and expensive. With the introduction of BMP Qualcomm claims that the certification process is greatly simplified and takes less than 2 days. But yet for the application to be available to the user it needs to be uploaded by the operator/carrier. This process may take lot of time. The same in the case of android market is very simple. The developer just needs to upload it in the market and the user can directly download it from there. The only difference is that the applications can be bug prone and its not certified. You may not get tech support for these apps.

Evaluation of android platform

The android platform is a mixture of Linux kernel and a Java application interface. Evaluation

The Linux kernel is very well tested over the years. In android, this has been slightly modified to suit the embedded / mobile environment. Linux as a OS is the most stable. So having the same as a mobile OS is also good.

For the developers the Java platform is most suitable for developing applications, since you don't have to worry about pointer and OO language increases the usability and maintainability of the system. Java forms one of the largest developer communities. So this combination is ideally suited for a mobile platform. Since java runs very slowly on a mobile, the virtual machine is modified. The Dalvik virtual machine is register based instead of the usual stack based VM's. This supposedly runs much faster.

Overall the platform looks very well organised and suits the mobile environment. Now after making this a open source we need to see the role of google in promoting and maintaining this platform.

Performance of android market

The android application market is quite similar to apple store, the main difference being that the applications are not controlled by google.

Anybody can register as a developer with a nominal fee of $25 and post their applications into this android market from where the users can download their applications. Presently only free applications are allowed to be posted and hence the market is given the name beta. Quite a good number of application are available now for free.

The rating system is same like that of you tube. How good this system will be only time will tell. Nonetheless its very easy for developers to post their applications onto this market. This should attract a lot of developers to post their applications in this market. As the number of applications increase how google manages it remains to be seen. It should have a mechanism to discourage apps that have bad rating.

building blocks of android application

To understand the basics of an android application and how it works, first we need to understand these terms.

Activities: This is the atomic functionality. An activity is usually a single screen in the application. When associated a UI it will be similar to a page/form of other platforms. There exists a stack of activities that is maintained by the activity manager. Every activity in android is associated with a class. It runs/exectues in the process that creates it.

Intents : Android uses a class called 'Intent' to move from screen to another. It has the information describing the action, data etc.

Intent Filters: specifies what the activity is capable of handling.

Service: Service is the one that performs a particular task for another applciation. Application which makes use of this service runs on different processes. Since they run on different context/process it makes use of Binder IPC for the communciation.

Content Provider: This is normally used for accessing lower level functionality like file access, network access etc. The content provider provides the platform related functionality to the running application.

Task: This contains a collection of related Activites. These set of activities perform a particular task. This is comparable to an application on other platforms.

Process: This is a simple linux process.

why android was open-sourced

Android is now released in the market and the first google phone is available. It mentions that if android were to use gpl license then nobody would then adopt android, because any properiatery software that are pluged-in to android would have to be made open source. Even though it would lead to more openness and faster development, many would like to avoid it. It has even chosen bionic libc just to keep the gpl license out of user space. It would be a nightmare for developers if everything that they develop were to be made open source. So apache license does make sense...

brew and android

Android is released after Brew so you can expect all the advantages of brew to be incorporated in android.

One of the best features of Brew is that you can write extensions. i.e. plug in components of the applications and introduce new features into the application. This feature is almost non-existant in any other software platform. In other platforms such an application can be created only by native application developers. In android, there exists no difference between a native developer and third party. So anybody can write such applications even if the feature is non-existant.

In Android, this feature is implemented in the form of AIDL. You can write one application which provides a specific service to another app. (this is as good as an extension). Since this is developed as a new applciation it can be shipped later.

Another striking difference between the two platform is that brew supports only CDMA mobiles whereas Android supports GSM, UMTS technologies. Since Android is open-source you can expect it to support CDMA in the near future.

porting to android

I have been working on brew platform from a long time now. For a change I am now presently looking into the android platform. Intially I was thinking that android platform would be similar to that of J2ME. But it isnt so. Only the basic J2ME libraries are supported in android. The application structure, activites, tasks and threading mechanism is quite different than J2ME. This means that for an application to port from J2ME to android is as tough as porting it from any other platform. But the number of API's supported by android is very good which makes porting to this platform easier. This is only my first impression of this platform, have to see how it goes...

Learning android platform

To learn android platform it would be better first to go through the presentations in the android website.

There are four presentations that give the detail about the components of the android platform. After understanding this you can choose your area of expertise and dig deep into the same.

I felt it would be better to learn about the platform by first concentrating on the kernel. The kernel is essentially the Linux kernel with some modifications for the mobile environment. Modifications include the binder (IPC driver), Power manager, bionic libc etc.

Android has tried to remove all the disadvantages of various software platforms and designed this platform to find a way around it. This is why I feel android would be a great success in the market. Also this has the added advantage of being open source. This would make the development much faster as more eyes will look into the code. This has even forced nokia to consider making symbian open source.

Looks like the telecom world is going through the phase of open source. Whether this will make telecom market better or kill it completely needs to be seen...

downloading git and android source in ubuntu

1. Install ubuntu 6.06 or above.

2. while installing linux if you are inside the firewall you need to modify /etc/apt/source.list. comment the first line and uncomment all other links.
If you are inside a firewall and the links to ubuntu updates are blocked while installing linux then you need to modify the above file. The first link will be prompting you to insert cdrom which needs to be commented and the other links will be commented if there is no access to it while installing linux. This can be later modifed by the root.

3. sudo apt-get update - this would update the sources.list with the latest packages available in the ubuntu public sites and the dependencies of each software to be installed.

4. sudo apt-get install git-core to install git. -This step will install git along with the dependent libraries. Alternately you can download the deb file and install in which case u need to install the dependent libraries yourself. I would prefer installing it this way first to install all the depending libraries first and then installing the required revision of git.

5. specific version of git is available at http://git-scm.com which can be downloaded and installed.

6. There was 3 days holidays since the labour day was on a monday. We thought it would be a good time to visit some places. We were mainly targeting either Log Angeles or Las vegas for the trip.
Raktim, our trip initiator made the analysis on which destination to choose. Los Angeles has Universal studios, one of the best six flags, hollywood and disney world. Whereas in contrast to these Las vegas is purely fun with casinos. Since most of them agreed there is more variety in the LA trip we opted for that. Intially two air tickets were booked one for Raktim and other by Senthil. Everybody else were still thinking as to go to the trip or not. I thought for sometime and decided to go since such opportunities to visit a place like LA would come after a long time. I also booked the tickets after a couple of days. The remaining 7 people of the team dropped out, probably because of the cost which was turning out to be too much for a three day trip. Even the best of Raktim and Sampreeth couldnt convince the rest to join. So finally it was the three of us on a trip to LA, california.
We now had one week to plan the trip. Everyday the trip plans were changing. There was a six flags in san antonio as well which is only about a hour's trip from Austin. So immediately we decided to drop six flags in LA and instead visit this one immediately. Sripad had arrived only a couple of days before but we all insisted and soon we made our way to San antonio. I had no previous experience in driving in US so most of the people were scared. Probably the drive on the car driven by me was the most scariest experience rather than the rides in six flags. he he he. Anyways, since I now graduated from a rookie driver to a good driver I gave the idea of going to Las Vegas as well since its just a 3-4 hour trip from LA and also we now have two good car drivers in Raktim and myself ;)
Finally it was decided that if our flights land on time then the plan would be like this... saturday universal studios, sunday las vegas... sunday night vegas casinos and monday afternoon and evening hollywood. Disney world was also dropped since we felt it would be mainly for children. We also decided to have a back up plan in case the flights were late since we were dependent on three flights. One in which Raktim and Senthil were travelling and the other two which I had to take to reach LA(since i booked little later). Even if one of those three flights were late we have to re-plan our schedule. So the back up plan was las vegas on saturday and saturday night. Universal studios on sunday and rest of LA on monday.
My flight was to leave austin at 6 whereas others were to leave at 7. I decided to take the super shuttle leaving at 4 and Senthil and Raktim were to come in Raktim's car after an hour. I was ready by 4 but even at 4.30 I couldnt find the shuttle. I called up the customer care and they told me there was no booking on my name. When I asked them to re-verify they confirmed that there was some booking and the shuttle would reach any minute. I waited and waited and finally at 4.45 there came my cab. After I boarded the cab I realised that I was the first person in it and it had to pick up many more people :( At 5.05 the cab boarded 5 more people but it was still roaming in downtown. I went in circles again and again. I was feeling whether it would ever reach the airport. I became restless and called up my friends. They friends were getting ready to leave in another 10 minutes. And then.... the cab driver put a complete circle to an apartment and stopped right in front of it. He must be searching for some address which he has no idea where it is. After sometime, the cab driver got out of the vehicle. He was still searching for something. It was all silent and dark all around. Nobody knew what was happending, and our driver went absconding. Everybody in the cab were looking at each other puzzled, trying to find out what was happening. I called up my friends and they were about to start from the hotel anytime. I was about to ask them to pick me up on their way when I saw the same cab driver was knocking somebody's door. Out came a person who was supposed to board our cab. He took another 5 minutes to finally board the cab. After the driver was back in his seat, one of the cab member started shouting at the driver saying her flight is at 7. He cooly replied saying we will be in the airport in another 10 minutes. Even I didnt worry much since when I travelled earlier it took me only 10 minutes to finish all the formalities and the airport isnt that far, normally takes only 15 minutes. The drive from that place to airport felt like a long long time since I kept thinking what would happen to the trip. Also I had to take two flights to LA so if dont catch this one I would surely miss the other one and one entire day out of the three day trip would be spent travelling :( Finally the cab reached the airport at 5.30. I quickly collected the boarding pass and within five minutes I finished the security check and was ready to board the flight. I then called up my friends who were scared weather I would be able to catch the flight or not. I told them all was well. They had reached the airport and were parking their car. I then, switched off my phone and boarded my flight.
It was a very small flight and my seat was the last one. The last row and the last seat. There was no seat on either side. Restroom was on the other side and in between was a foldable seat to be used by the crew. Then the air hostess came and sat next to me. She was very beautiful like a typical american gal. As expected, I started a conversation with her. I spent a lot of time chatting with her. She showed me her schedule, 5 flights on thrusday, 4 on friday, 2 on saturday and one on sunday. Suddenly she picked up the mic and made an announcement. "Please put on your seat belts, the flight is about to take off... blah blah blah". I always thought it was a pre recorded announcment but here I see her talking right in front of me. She left for her duties serving the customers. I waited sometime for her. I fell asleep. I woke up in nevada, pheonix. It all a barren land a desert, full of hills and sandy mountains. I messaged my friends indicating that I reached pheonix. waited for another one hour and boarded the flight to LA. In a couple of hours I was in LA. Thinking my friend would already be waiting for me I called up my friends. They told me come to the place where the pickup bus to enterprise comes. Even though I went there I couldnt spot my friends. We then realised there must be many similar places in the airport. So we decided to meet up at enterprise. I boarded the enterprise bus and after sometime from another platform my friends also boarded the same bus.
I registered myself as a co-driver along with Raktim for the car. Since the car booking was done thinking that there were many people, he had booked a big car Cherysterl. For a trip to vegas a luxurious car like this one makes perfect sense :D so we took the car had brunch and headed straight to Universal studios after a quick stop at the hotel. We decided to take the VIP pass as we expected a huge rush due to the long weekend. LA looked more like india with high traffic jams. We bumped right into a traffic jam. we tried avoiding highways but even that didnt help much. At 1.30 we reached universal studios. We parked our car under jurassic park and headed to the enterence.

After a photo session under the universal studios globe we bought the tickets and entered the park. We took some more photos in front of some black statues. Only after sometime did I realize that one of them was a real human being. god only knows how a person dressed completely in black and painted in black can stand in such hot sun and act like a automated robot. Anyway we first entered what was called as the house of horrors. This wasnt much scary only lights coming on and off and there was also not much scary sound. There were some people acting dressed as monstors but one of them got very irritated when I started mocking him ;)

Then we headed down through the escalators to the special effects section. There were a bunch of escalators all very big seemed like never ending. We then entered back draft. This was a simulaton of a house on fire and was wonderfully controlled fire inside. After seeing visual effects we saw how some of the sound effects were created. Mummy ride was good which was a roller coaster ride in the dark and with horror sounds and a reverse ride. Jurrasic park ride was also different than the rest, huge roller coaster in the water. We went up the escalators to back to the place where we entered. Simpsons ride was one of the best simulation rides I have seen. Shrek 4D and terminator 3D were my personal best. The drive through universal studios was also intresting. It was seven by the time we came out of universal studios.

Then we decided to visit hollywood even though it was dark. We kept searching for the place and finally reached the place. There were many people dressed up like famous actresses. Senthil took his photo with a marlyin monroe lookalike but when it came to us the camera battery went off ;-) Anyway we had enough for the day and decided to go back to the hotel and take rest.

As decided next day we would be in las vegas and the night also over there itself. So having the hotel back in LA makes no sense so we decided to cancel the hotel for the next night in LA and instead book it in vegas. Fortunately everything went well and we got the hotel at a good price in vegas as well. While Raktim was busy with all this, Senthil, the water boy could not resist taking a dive at the swimming pool inside the hotel. So finally after finishing all the formalities in the morning we left the hotel at 11. In a few momemts I was driving in the most costliest places "Beverly hills". We found a guide car which was going through the most famous houses of that place. So we started following that. After sometime when they realised that we were following them they tricked us and somehow managed to get us out of their trail :-) It was decided we had enough of beverly hills already so started our way to vegas at about 12.30. Since its a 3-4 hour drive we thought we would reach there latest by 5.

The drive to vegas was one of the best. The landscape was changing every few miles. This was one of the best places to drive. We took a lot of photos in every new landscape. Many were telling us that it would have been better to go to vegas directly and forget about LA. But according to me it was worth going to LA and driving all the way to vegas. The landscape even though it was a dry barren land was wonderful to see. Driving in such a place was wonderful.

The above pictures are some of the photos that we took on the way to vegas. Taking all the photos on the way consumed a lot of time and by it was evening growing dark by the time we reached vegas. Without wasting any time we visited one of the casinos. The city is full of casinos, so to attract customers there is some sort of attraction or other. We went to one such casino which had a huge water fountain. The crowd was so huge that we roamed around the place for an hour to find a parking spot. We had to be content with watching the fountain from the traffic jam. :-) We then entered one of the casinos. We started gambling in one of the casinos. Since Senthil was new to this we thought of pooling some money and start playing. Each of us pooled in 20$ and started playing rolley. Soon we started winning lots of money. Our 60$ became 100$. The owner of the casino realised that we are winning too much and started asking us to show our ID cards. Raktim showed his ID card and I showed my indian driving lisence. The casino guy said he doesnt accept indian driving lisence. He asked me to either get the ID card or leave the casino immediately. Since we were winning I asked Raktim and Senthil to continue till the first time we lose some money. Meanwhile, I left the place to get my passport which was there back in my car. It took me almost 20 minutes to get back to the casino after collecting my passport. After checking my ID card the security guy called up everybody in the casino to tell that I had a valid age proof. Most of us were shocked looking at the security and the way they react. When I was told to leave the casino, the same person reportedly told all the casino staff that I dont have proper ID card with me and I am not allowed to gamble in that casino. In case I had lost money then nobody would have even asked me about my ID card. Its only because I was winning I was treated that way. Anyway all this didnt effect us much. By the time I returned back the money 60$ became 120$ and had lost the play once so we stopped at that. Then we had dinner at the nearby place inside the casino and then headed back to the hotel. We freshened up in the hotel and then headed back for a night in vegas.
We quickly got out of the hotel and started searching for whats best in vegas. The search took up almost an hour but yet we couldnt find a good one. Then finally we entered a big mall. There we found a place where we could spend some time. It was almost 4 'o' clock by the time we decided that we had enough of casinos. This was a smaller casino and my 20$ became 60$. Senthil and Raktim had enough and wanted to get back to the hotel. It was quite late so I dropped them back to the hotel. I got a little greedy and wanted to continue in the casino so I headed back to the same casino since this place was only a mile away from the hotel. This time I lost 30$ and also there were not many people so this time it was too boring. So I headed back to the room and had a sound sleep.

The next day morning we woke up at around 9. Our return flights were scheduled at 7 in the evening from LA. The previous day evening we realised that the grand canyon is very near to vegas. So we called up our friends back in Texas to find out the exact distance from vegas and the route to get back to LA from grand canyon. After talking to them we realised that the trip to canyon would be almost impossible since this was a long weekend and there would be too much traffic as well. We had to drop this idea. At about 11 we started our way back to LA. Since we had already taken a lot pictures while coming to vegas we thought that drive back to LA wouldnt take long, max by 4 we would reach. But none of us imagined what were to happen next. What we were about to witness was perhaps, according to me, the best part of the trip.

I started driving. We were just out of vegas city and we got caught in a traffic jam. This was one of the worst traffic jam that we were caught up with. Since this was a single road inside a barren land we could see a long distance and as far as we could see it was full of traffic jam stand still. There was no other road in sight. We had to get through this jam. It took over an hour to cover a distance of 10 miles. In the traffic jam this was the first time we came through a intersection. I thought it would be faster to try the service road and then back to the same highway thinking it would be slightly faster. So I took a right turn. The traffic was so much that I couldnt switch lanes. Raktim said since I am in the left most lane I should take left even though we were supposed to go straight. So I took left and went under the highway where we were supposed to go. Thinking that it is another road where we can take a U turn Raktim asked me to take a left turn again. Unfortunately this road headed back to the highway in the opposite direction. The next intersection in the highway is another 10 miles ahead. This turned out to be a horrible mistake. To cover this 10 miles we took almost an hour and we were heading back to the same place again. Since going thru the jam again was too much for us we decided to avoid highways. So in the next intersection we came though another small road which was 90 degrees to the highway. Senthil exclaimed "where are we heading". Raktim wondered are we going in the right direction. 240 miles became 290 miles once we switched to no highway mode. As we were in no mood to get back to the traffice we went ahead. To convince my friends I said in the desert you will find road intersecting at 90 degrees only ;) This road was far different than the normal american straight roads. Also the way I was driving in full speed even though the road was very narrow full of up's and down's, Raktim got a little scared. This road headed straight into the desert. The scenery was too good. We stopped for a while and took some wonderful photos.

Raktim took the wheel from here. We went ahead for about a mile from here where we found an intersection. Suddenly the GPS started showing 590 miles. We got a little suspicious as to why suddenly it had to show double the distance. We stopped at the intersection for sometime to decide where to head next. We switched back to the highway mode and the GPS started showing us the way back to the highway in the exact road from where we came. The highway was 10 miles back and nobody was intrested in getting back to the highway. There were a few buildings nearby and we thought of asking someone as to how to get back. In the third building that we went to we found someone. This building had a gate far far away. Raktim and me tried crossing the gate and went inside. There was a man who saw us from far away. Raktim instructed me to stop and started shouting "How to get back to LA". Apparently Raktim and Senthil saw this person put something in his pocket(probably a gun). This person didnt understand English. He called a lady inside the building and both came out. They instructed us to get back to the highway and follow it to reach LA. Raktim still wasnt convinced. He waited at the intersection for another vehicle. Another lady also instructed him to get back to the highway. Now we headed back to highway as we were quickly loosing a lot of time. We reached the highway at about 2.15. We were exactly at the same place 2hr and 1 hr back :D.

When we arrived back on the highway we hoped that the jam would have cleared off, but unfortunately it wasnt. Anyway it wasnt too late. 5 hrs in hand and 198 miles to go. Considering no jams we would have reached in 3 hours. So with jams we thought we would reach in 4 hours. I started driving again, and I felt like I was driving in India with so many vehicles around. Since it was getting late I started changing lanes frequently which is not advised in US. The traffic was very painful. We covered only 20 miles in the next hour. Till now Raktim advised not to move in the shoulder(rightmost). Finally Senthil convinced Raktim that we should now start using this lane. Whenever we would see traffic we would take this lane. Senthil then came up with the advise that since we are driving in this lane the car should be driven by Raktim since he has US license or it would take up a lot of time convincing the police that I have a valid non-US driving license. This was a good advise so Raktim moved into the drivers seat. At one place there was too much traffic. We were going in the rightmost lane (not the shoulder) and ahead of was were three huge trucks. Normally US trucks are very huge and long. There were three of them one behind the other. Since there was too much traffic almost stand still we decided to take the shoulder. We were half way through overtaking the first truck when suddenly even the truck decided to take the shoulder. That truck almost hit our car. We stopped the car and took reverse by a small distance. We waited for the truck and it abondend the idea of taking the shoulder. So tried again for the second time to overtake this truck through the shoulder. Again the same thing was repeated. This time Raktim put the car horn. First time we heard the sound of the horn and it was tooo loud. The truck driver saw us but he just ignored us. He took the shoulder and we were stranded in the shoulder. After sometime again the stupid truck driver abondened the idea of taking the shoulder. That driver wasnt allowing us to go ahead nor is he using himself. For the third time we tried overtaking that truck. Anybody's guess what happened next. :-) This scared Senthil. He started smoking heavily sitting the back seat. After three times we decided this is enough. We used the emergency lane (leftmost lane) and overtook the three trucks.

100 miles to go and it was already 4.30. With the amount of traffic we werent sure whether we would make it to LA on time. Raktim was in full form driving in full speed in the shoulder, switching lanes like he was driving in india. Everyone thought we would surely be caught by the police. I was waiting when we would be caught. Raktim had the track record of being caught for overspeeding. The previous two weekends he was caught for overspeeding. At one point of time we even crossed 100 mph mark. Unfortunately (coz only this was left) no police caught us this time. We reached the outskirts of LA by around 6 '0' clock. We had to return back the car, oops before that fill up the tank. We found a gas station filled up the tank and returned the car by 6.30. Not sure how within the city limits even though we were driving at 80 mph nobody caught us. Anyway we then boarded the enterprise bus and got back to airport at 6.45, just 15 minutes before the flight.

The flight attendent asked us if there was any check-in luggage. We had one check-in luggage and 3 hand baggages. She refused to give the boarding pass saying it was too late. We tried to convince her but that went in vain. We even offered to leave our check-in luggage back in LA, but yet we werent given the boarding pass.

We stood in another queue to get an alternate ticket. Everyone was calculating how much extra we had to pay for the return ticket as we missed our flight. Alternate tickets were arranged through chicago which would leave LA at midnight and reach austin the following morning at 10. The person issuing the tickets took our check-in luggage. He left the desk immediately.

Raktim and I were wondering where he left and where our check-in luggage went. That person had actually handed over the boarding passes to Senthil which we realised after about five minutes. We were releaved after looking at it. We informed all our friends that we would be late to work the next day. There was no more unexpected events after this. We reached austin the next day.

This trip included everything adventure, excitment, tension, high speed driving, gambling, fun and what not. nothing can ever match this trip. One of the very best.

Senthil wanted to review this blog and also put this trip in his perspective before I posted it... but some things remain unfinished...

Indiana Jones - cristal skull

Need to get into the habit of writing blogs frequently. Another movie I watched recently was Indiana Jones. After a lot of friends saying its a good movie I thought of watching this. If you want to watch a movie its always better to watch it in the first week itself.

The movie is good even though its slow moving and kinda childish story, or rather I would say outdated. If the same was released about 10 years back it would have been greatly appreciated. I felt the first half, was tooo boring. The second half makes up for it though. Nothing much in the story. Direction and Acting is ok. Overall this is not bad. Worth watching once...

vantage point

Long time since I wrote any blog. It shows 5 different views of a single murder sequence and each time explaining a little further in the story. Although I liked the direction, I found the movie lacking in the story line. Its only the direction which makes it watchable, else it would have been a boring movie. This was considered unethical by a few people but most of the people thought it was perfectly legal. My view about this is that it wasnt right on the part of gilchrist to use such methods which makes it easier to bat. That would only give the batsmen an unfair advantage.

Even earlier whenever such unfair methods were used it was disgarded and were not allowed to be used after the first such incident. Take the case of using a steel bat or using advise of the coach with an earphone. Now only because its an australian using such methods it need not be considered ethical.

Lets say gilchrist is given a clean chit (which is most likely to happen) let us think about what would happen to the future of cricket. You will have springs in the boots for you to help running and also fielding. You can design a helmet that will bounce of it and go for a six, as runs are also counted if you take some evasive action. Basically you will be having an invasion of technology into cricket. The game wont be testing criketing skills instead it tests how well they adapt to new technologies.

300

Long awaited movie review after a long time :)

This is an all out war story. This is acutally a story book adaptation. It is a story about a group of 300 people fight aganist an army of a few lakhs who have come to invade their country. Wonderful computer graphics makes the movie worth the money. Many people liked the movie but somehow I felt there was something missing in it.

First of all the movie is narrated in a story book style. Some may like this as it is different from the normal way the movie is presented. In a movie you are supposed to show the actions that you try to imagine in a book, which is the basic difference between a book and a movie. You repeat the same dialogs as in the book is something absurd. Just imagine this when the war is going on and the son of the captain dies you hear a background dialog saying " the way in which the captain was fighting after seeing his dead son was something even the enemy feared". The same could have been shown in the form of actions... the enemy army being shown with fear in their eyes after looking at the captain's fury.

The war scenes are fantanstic. But the same being repeated for a long time is what I felt was boring. At any point of time you dont feel attached to the movie. Basically the fact that 300 people are sacrificing their lives for their country isnt captured properly. For those who appreciate the special effects in the movie may like it. Overall its a movie watchable but could have been made much better.

National Anthem

Recently there has been a controversy over the national anthem played in infosys, but I couldnt understand what the fuss was all about. If a person has made some mistake and has already apolozied for it then why create a big fuss about it. And then there was one more controversy about cauvery. If a person residing in bangalore, who runs his bussiness in bangalore expresses his opinion about it then whats wrong. Is he not supporting the movement. And then you have the local MLAs raising their voice aganist him. The cauvery verdict was given more than one month back and what did these MLAs do about the issue for so long. Instead of talking about this in the assembly they were talking about punishing Mr. Murthy. Now tell me which is more important: getting the right amount of cauvery water for karnataka or punishing murthy. The MLAs seem to have opted for the latter.

Crucifiction of Hindustan

India - Soon gonna be a Christian country???? Beleive it or not but its happening. Had been hearing about the numerous conversions taking place in the country with about 52% increase in the population of christians in the past one year. but the real shocker was the two rupee coin that I saw today. It had the crusaders cross embedded on it, the mark of the christians. The national emblem itself was made insignificant but the cross was huge. The India map is now replaced with the cross. When I first saw it I thought it was the currency of some other country. Cant believe whats happening in India. Since independence the coins always had either the india map or the national emblem but suddenly you now have a christian cross on the currency of our country. soon you may find an Italisthan emerging out of India. Is there anyone out there who can stop these politicians from destroying this country? Act now if you can... The story is set in sierra leaon. This is a real life story of that country that touches the heart. The movie is very well directed and some excellent performances by the actors.

The country has large deposits of diamond. There exist no proper government control. Most of the parts of the country is controlled by the rebels who smuggle the diamonds to the neighbouring country and make money. These rebels make use of the poor people of the country for mining and are treated in very inhuman conditions. The story is narrated by a english journalist, who wants to expose the state of the country to the western world; a diamond smuggler and a normal civilian of the country, who by luck discovers a big diamond.

This may sound like a normal movie but I particularly like the way its directed which makes you think, are the diamonds really worth buying. Its coz of you so many people die...

There is a mention of India in the movie. They have mentioned India as the place where the smuggled diamonds are polished and mixed with other diamonds. I couldnt understand why India had to be drawn into all this. India is still a good market for diamonds. Maybe its time we stopped buyin diamonds and also all other precious stones...

Dhoom 2

AAAh finally I am watched Dhoom... it took me an entire day to get the tickets of this movie. Right from the morning I was struggling to get the tickets, finally at 7.00 in the evening got the tickets for the second show :D

Dhoom boasts about its star cast as the best in bollywood and its shows. The movie is basically made for Hritik and he performs a wonderful role. Ashwairya and Bipasha are at their best. Abhishek is typically wasted and uday chopra is a joke. The songs which was very good part1 in Dhoom2 you can find only remixes.

The initial part of the movie where hritik jumps onto the train, the sequence is very good even tho I couldnt understand what he was trying to do there ;) the different ways in which he robs was very creative. Right from the start Hritik mania takes over and keeps on the edge of the seat. This was supposed to be a cop-thief story and thats exactly what you get. There are many sequences where you feel that the director has tried to copy some of the hollywood movies like MI2 but at other times its just as funny. The movie has a few good twists and turns which makes you think why the movie doesnt have a proper story. Aishwarya has tried to look very sexy which i dont think suits well to her but the hritik-ash pair looks wonderful. Bipasha is sizzling hot... Overall the movie is very good. Defineatly worth watchin...

lage raho

lage raho munnabhai the sequel of MBBS does better than the first one. It fails to capture the ideology of Bhagat singh, what he wanted to put across to his people.

In trying to bring it parallel to the story of bhagat singh all the people are killed in the movie. But this movie doesnt capture the reason why and what he was fighting aganist.

Nothing can be perfect in this world. The british empire was aganist the indians. Bhagat singh was trying to expose this to the entire world. Thats the reason why he put a bomb in the parliment. This wasnt such a serious crime to be given a death sentence. In the court procedings these flaws were clearly exposed.

If the movie has to be completely parallel to his story then the ending should be re-written with a friend of bhagat joining hands the enemy to plan a plot to kill everyone... They are very good in given bollywood some of the best thirllers. This movie has one of my favorite actress ishaa kopikar but alas she gets killed in the very starting :( This is a detective story played by akshay khanna who tires to investigate who killed isha. my other favorite Tanu also makes a guest appearence for one song... All the songs are clubbed together in the starting of the movie which makes it quite boring, but once the story gets going its quite ok. the directors have tried to inculde some comedy in this movie somethin which i didnt like. i dont think trillers and comedy go together. The background music is ok. The biggest drawback in this movie is that the story goes on in the expected lines. you can actually predict whats gonna happen next. I would say this is a good timepass movie. :)

Fanaa

Sorry folks for not writing a blog for a long time...
I am back with another movie review for fanaaa

Aamir khan together with kajol make a wonderful couple on-screen. Both are good in playing their characters in the movie. The first half of the movie is just like any other romantic movie, but some of the shayaris is worth listening. Towards the second half the director has thought of adding some story into the movie and its a total disater... Even some of the TV serials have a better storyline than this movie. The movie just goes on as expected but way too slow. Its still amases me how I managed to watch the entire movie. The biggest letdown in this flim is its music. This movie was shot with a difference. we have seen a lot of cinemas on the same topic bhagat singh and how great he was but none of them captured the feelings of bhagat singh like the way this movie does. None of previous moive tries to describe why he took such a decision and what made him do that. Rang de Basanti does this by relating it to the present day situation.

This movie is made from the heart and that is evident while watchin the it. The movie has the mix of both the modern day masala together with a message, the combination very rarely found in the same movie.

The movie starts with british director who wants to make a movie on bhagat singh. As the story goes on the actors acting in the flim land up in a situation which is very much similar to what bhagat singh faced. The similarities in these two situations are highlighted which is the best element of the movie.

Some would say the ending does not suit it properly, but i would say that this is the the best ending this movie could have. This is exactly what is happening in present day situation. Relating this to Bhagat singh, this is exactly what had happened to him.

One major element in the movie is its music. The background score is very good. Also the timing of each song is fantastic. My favorite song is "rang de basanti". In other movies of bhagat singh we have heard many versions of that song. This one is the modern version and it lives upto its reputation.

new beginning

<img style="margin: 0px 0px 10px 10px; And now if u think there is going to be some twist in the story in the later half then you are wrong again. The hero finally gets caught by one of the alien machines. and what does he do. yup rite he destroyes it. then then what happens........ all the alien machines and the aliens die themselves on their own with no particular reason. and the movie ends with a voice sayin the aliens dont have the immunity to stay on earth..... what a sad ending. i would have liked if all humans had died, thats atleast logical. anyways according to me the greatest drawback of this movie is that it doesnt have any heroine. seeing the heroine run from the aliens (like in baywatch) would have been really entertainning. i missed her very much in this movie :(

Kya Kool hai hum

After a long time i saw a hindi movie that was worth watching. quite a funny movie. the first half of the movie is too good and in the second half it just takes the usual course. the movie is unable to maintain the same tempo like the start. but still i would say overall a good movie defineatly worth a watch. most of the story is unrealistic but who cares as long as it is funny to watch.

see this movie with ur close friends or alone. the choice that i made was to see this movie alone. As my computer was not working i decided to see this in a theather. was a wrong choice. my two neighbours were two very beautiful gals n with such a intimidating atmosphere it was very tuff to control myself for 3 hours. one was like isha (one of my fav gals) and the other like neha. thanks to their boyfriends or i donno wht i would hv done to them ;)

if u still havent watched the movie then go watch it and give ur reaction as a comment to this post.

my new bike

finally after a long thinking i bought the new unicorn. its a wonderful bike to say the least. to make it more attactive i took a red one.
